Costas Be Gone

How do you lose a pair of expensive sunglasses? Easy, just leave them in the cab of a rescue.
They didn’t get stolen or broken. Nope. This one is all on me. I left them hanging on a hook behind the seat in one of our ambulances while I jumped onto another unit to go to our training facility for three hours. I had taken everything else off and I figured that I would only be gone for a few hours before I came back. Besides, it was already after sunset, so I wasn’t going to need them anyhow.
Well, in the time I was gone, that same ambulance ended up answering back to back to back calls, the last one being a critical one. When I got back from training, I had to go to the nearby hospital rather than go back to the station to get back onto my original unit. Once I arrived, I put all of my equipment back on and found that my sunglasses were missing. The crew that had been on it since I had left told me about how busy they were and that they did in fact see my sunglasses floating around the patient compartment during that last serious call. They both remarked that they thought it was odd that there were sunglasses back there, but were too busy with the patient to really give it a second thought.
We all combed the rescue carefully looking for the hard-to-miss turquoise frames and blue lens glasses with no success. I told the crew relieving me in the morning to be on the lookout for them in case they ran across them, but at that point I had pretty much given up on seeing them ever again. I had a real good track record with them. They were with me for the better part of five years. I had saved up for them because I rarely ever treat myself to anything nice and I wanted a nice pair of sunglasses to better protect my eyes from the unforgiving Florida sun.
So now I have a pair of less expensive glasses from Shady Rays that are just as nice and have a fantastic warranty for lost or broken sunglasses, which given the work environment I’m in makes this a safe bet. Yes, you read that right, they replace lost sunglasses and part of their profits go to Feeding America to provide meals for the hungry. They just might have me as a customer for life, but we’ll see. It’s time to put these new shades through the road test.
