Family Game Night
It’s hard to believe that we have done so much as a family, yet tonight is our first hockey game together. We have been to the lightning training camps, fire versus police games, and I took Emma to her first game a couple of years ago when she earned a free ticket through school. in fact, my first date with Stephenie was a hockey game. That should come as no surprise, but it was also with my mom, stepfather, and brother in attendance. Mom got free tickets, what can I say?
But together as a family with both kids going to a regular season game? It just hasn’t happened. Partially because William was not able to sit still for longer periods of time at sporting events until this last year. We kind of broke both of the kids into spectating with USF Bulls football games before wanting to spend a lot more money for hockey tickets in case they made us leave halfway through. Another reason is my work schedule and how it regularly interferes with events, but Steph got tickets for tonight and it works well with everybody else so how do we not take advantage?
I like how both kids have come to enjoy the game by watching me play and also seeing the game on TV. William’s skating is getting better and Emma has a full set of gear, so once it starts cooling off outside, there will be some basketball court hockey games going on. I don’t think either of them are gunning for the junior hockey league, but I won’t stand in their way either. My only hope is that this is something we can always share no matter how old they get or where ever they may travel off to. I’m glad that Steph understands the wonderfulness that is hockey and has helped foster it in both of them as well. I know that this is just the beginning of another great family tradition. Go Bolts!
