The High Price of Survival

Water, water everywhere……..just swipe your card to drink…..

I had a recent run in with the glory that is capitalism. It was a sweltering afternoon at a nearby theme park which had only a scant few water fountains spitting out not quite cold water. Available nearby was a vendor selling soda and bottled water. They apparently feel that charging $5 for a 16 oz bottle of water was very reasonable. I find it quite the opposite. I understand you can charge whatever you like for smoked turkey legs, Crusty Burgers, and some weird concoction called butterbeer. But a Lincoln for a life essential? It should be criminal.

Make no mistake, Universal is making money hand-over-fist with one of a kind souvenirs, food preparations, and fast passes. Why can’t it be more reasonably priced, or hell, why not free? How hard would it be to install large water fountains that continuously give out cold water? Instead of spending $5 on the bottled stuff, I’d rather put that toward a souvenir or the aforementioned a turkey leg. When you need water, there is no substitute.

In the unforgiving Florida heat, you have to be hydrated before you even go outside. Trying to keep up with the sun is a difficult task without drinking water beforehand. I’m from here and it’s unbearable outside. I hate feeling like there is no alternative than to spend $22 bucks on 4 bottles of purified water, probably from a municipal source (looking at you, Dasani). I blame myself because Universal does allow you to bring in up to 2 liters of water with you into the park. I did not do enough research beforehand. So learn from my mistake and take in two liter bottles per person. They will be small enough to fit into the small rectangular lockers provided for free to park guests on rides that don’t allow backpacks or loose items. Don’t worry, as hot as it is outside, your bottles will become lighter sooner than you think.
